
A street lamp not only illuminates the road, but also plays a crucial role in urban governance.Recently, Sanshui District of Foshan City, Guangdong Province, completed the renovation of 31,000 streetlights. The solution and services provided by Iotcomm innovatively adopted a 4G dual-SIM communication technology solution, which greatly improved communication reliability and helped Sanshui District successfully build an efficient, stable and intelligent urban lighting management system.

The project has saved over 6 million yuan in street light electricity costs annually and has also enabled intelligent management of street lights.
Before the renovation, Sanshui District faced many municipal management challenges:
Insufficient brightness: Traditional sodium lamps are dim, providing only 15-20 Lx of illumination on main roads.
High energy consumption: Significant energy waste and high electricity bills.
Outdated maintenance: Faults cannot be located promptly, routine inspections are time-consuming and labor-intensive, leading to numerous citizen complaints.

In Sanshui District, 11,500 sodium lamps in the central urban area and main roads have been upgraded to LED energy-saving lamps. Approximately 2,400 new LED streetlights have been added to old residential areas and alleys. A total of 25,000 smart lamp controllers have been installed throughout the district, and 61 transformers have been renovated.
Taking into account requirements such as communication reliability, coverage, and cost-effectiveness, this project innovatively adopts a 4G Cat.1 dual-SIM communication solution.
This solution uses industrial-grade 4G modules, which can effectively utilize the wide coverage of 4G networks and maintain a stable, low-latency connection in complex environments. The dual-SIM slot design is compatible with mainstream carrier networks, and compared to single-SIM solutions, dual-SIM significantly enhances communication reliability.

This technical solution is perfectly suited to the complex surface environment and dense urban buildings of Sanshui District, ensuring the stable transmission of status data for each street light and the timely issuance of control commands, thus laying a solid communication foundation for smart lighting management.
The project also deployed 236 concertrator controllers to manage individual lamp controllers. All device data is fed into the Smart Monitoring Platform, customized for Sanshui District by Iotcomm, in real time and stably. This platform acts as the "smart brain" of lighting, and with reliable communication support, it enables visualized management of all streetlights in Sanshui District through a single map.

Improved maintenance efficiency:If a street light malfunctions, the platform will automatically issue an alarm and provide staff with precise location information. This reduces the government's inspection manpower costs by 20%.
It saves approximately 7.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year and reduces standard coal consumption by 921.75 tons, contributing to environmental protection.
